4th edition of “Italian Cinema Festival in Bulgaria – a journey between art, cinema, tourism and food: projections, meetings, workshop and promotional events for a Festival dedicated to Apulia Region” ended with a great success and 3600 participants.
From June 17th to June 21th, Cinema Lumière LIDL hosted, for an entire week, lot of Italian lovers watching nine movies made in Apulia Region, tackling significant aspects of Italian cultural beauty, tourism and food.
For the fourth consecutive year, this promotional initiative is promoted by Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria under the patronage of the Tourism and Cultural Industry Council Member – Management and Development of Cultural Heritage, Atty. Loredana Capone, of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, of the Embassy of Italy in Sofia and of the Municipality of Sofia, and organized in collaboration with Apulia Film Commission, the National Palace of Culture in Sofia and the Bulgarian Institute of Culture of Rome.

This fourth edition was particularly remarkable, not only for the numbers of participants but for the collaboration between Italian and Bulgarian Institutional personalities: indeed “the 4th Edition of the Italian Cinema Festival in Bulgaria” has been chosen for the “2nd Edition of Making Cinema – Italian Cinema Week in the world” promoted by Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MIBAC) and part of Integrated promotion plan “vivere all’italiana”, as well as included in the program of the Italian Festival organized by the Agency ICE Sofia.
The event has been successful also from the media point of view thanks to official media partners of the Festival, BNT – Bulgarian National Television, Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, Bulgaria On Air and HiL!fe, and because of the several TV and radio interviews and several meetings.
Ornella Muti was interviewed in three important TV programs of BTV Media Group and BNT, while film directors Nico Cirasola, Edoardo Winspeare and the actress Celeste Casciaro were guests of the television program “Bulgaria in the morning” of the national broadcaster Bulgaria On Air.
Daily appointments were held at the Cinema Lumière LIDL, where Bulgarian public had the occasion to know some of film directors and actors of projections schedule and attend to networking moments with Bulgarian counterparts, by involving of Italian certified restaurants with Quality Label “Ospitalità Italiana-Ristoranti Italiani nel Mondo”. The events schedule includes the attended meeting with the Special Guest, the Italian actress Ornella Muti, came to Sofia for the occasion.
On Monday 17th June, the Festival officially started with a Press Conference at InterContinental Sofia presided over by the President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, Marco Montecchi; the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Dimitrov; the President of Embassy of Italy in Sofia, S.E. Stefano Baldi, the Chairman of the standing of committee culture, education and science of the Sofia Municipal Council, Malina Edreva, the President of National Palace of Culture, Borislav Velkov; the President of Bulgarian Institute of Culture in Rome, Jana Jakovleva; and the Artistic Director and Cultural and Audiovisual event organizer of Apulia Film Commission, Rocco Colangelo.
“I remember that moment, four years ago, the President of the Italian Chamber of commerce in Bulgaria Marco Montecchi presented for the first time the idea to organize this Festival and I can assure you that it was highest prize. I assure you that this initiative was and continues to be the event gave you the most satisfaction and we hope that it will become a tradition here in Sofia!” the Chairman of the standing committee of the Sofia Municipal Council, Malina Edreva told.
The Press Conference started with the projection of the official promo trailer of the 4th Edition of Italian Cinema Festival and the projection of the showreel produced by Apulia Film Commission. The Press Conference recorded the presence of more than 70 journalists, who attended asking questions and curiosities about the Festival and the relationship between Italia and Bulgaria.
The day continued at the Cinema Lumierè LIDL with the first projection of the Festival and full cinema hall, in this occasion the President Montecchi thanked to public in the hall and it started to present the Festival schedule.
The first projection was “Ricchi di fantasia“by Francesco Miccihè, which will be propose in the summer edition at Summer Stage of National Palace of Culture (NDK). The event continued with the projection of “L’agenzia dei bugiardi” by Volfango De Biasi.
On Monday June 18th at 18:30, almost 600 host as Italian and Bulgarian institutions and other important personalities, attended at Gala Cocktail and Red Carpet on invitation, at Summer Summer Stage of National Palace of Culture (NDK). During the special event, friends and partners had the occasion to #vivereallitaliana, tasting an aperitivo offered by our sponsor Social Club, typical Apulian food products, an excellent selection of Italian wine and spumanti, and an ice cream by Gelato e latte like dessert. During the Gala Cocktail the guests could admire some of the best brands of design “made in Italy”, with soundtrack by Ennio Morricone and Nicola Piovani.
At 19:30, the delivery of the award plaques it took place as thanks for the cooperation at the 4th Edition of the Italian Cinema Festival in Bulgaria.

The first plaque was delivered to the Chairman of the standing committee of the Sofia Municipal Council, Malina Edreva. Followed the President of National Palace of Culture, Borislav Velkov; the Artistic Director of Apulia Film Commission, Rocco Colangelo and the Director of ICE Agency, Alessandra Capobianco.
The delivery of the plaques continued with the main sponsor Porshe Sofia Zapad and the gold sponsors Penkov, Markov & Partners and InterContinental Sofia. Followed by Manzo Restaurant, Orsetti pasticceria, Puglia sapori tipici pugliesi and FerreriGroup Bulgaria.
After the Gala cocktail, the event moved to the Cinema Lumière LIDL with the projection of the film “Mi rifaccio il trullo” by Vito Cea.
On Wednesday June 19th in the morning, an institutional meeting took place between to the Chairman of the standing committee of the Sofia Municipal Council, Malina Edreva; the President Montecchi; the Secretary-General of the Italian Chamber of Commerce Rosa Cusmano at Sofia Municipality and the Artistic Director of Apulia Film Commission, Rocco Colangelo.
The Festival continued with the projection “Due piccoli italiani“ by Paolo Sassanelli, followed by the attended arrive of the special guest Ornella Muti. Waiting for her at the entrance of the Cinema a large crowd of people, numerous journalists, national TV and specialized Media ready to interview her.
After the presentation of the beautiful star to the audience in the hall by the President Montecchi, the President of the standing committee of “culture, education and youth” of the Sofia Municipal Council, Malina Edreva, delivered the branded plaque to the charming diva Ornella Muti, to the film directors Nico Cirasola, Edoardo Winspeare and the actress Celeste Casciaro.
The event continued with the projection of “La vita in comune” by Edoardo Winspeare. After the screening of the film, the movie director with the actress Celeste Casciaro, shared their artistic and cinematographic experience and interacted nicely with the crowded room.
In the meanwhile, a VIP Business Dinner offered by the Sofia Exclusive Club Residence took place in order to paying homage to the guest star Ornella Muti, involving authoritative exponents of the Bulgarian government, including the Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova, the deputy head of the mission and head of the economic office of the Italian Embassy in Sofia Francesco Calderoli, senior representatives of the local business world including lawyers Vladimir Penkov and Iskra Stefanova, the General Manager of InterContinental Sofia Angelo Zuccala, the SDA Bocconi Regional Ambassador Teodor Minev, the Sales Consultant of Porsche Sofia Zapad Alexander Kostadinov, the President of the National Palace of Culture of Sofia Borislav Pelkov and the host of the exclusive event, Stanislava Georgieva, in addition to the presence of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and Apulia Film Commission.
On Thrusday at 19:00, thee Festival continued with the projection of “Rudy Valentino”, preceded by the meeting of the director Nico Cirasola with the Bulgarian public, during which he reviewed the salient features of the story of Rodolfo Valentino, protagonist of his film. Followed by the projection of the film “Tonno spiaggiato” by Matteo Martinez.
On June 21th, the guests partecipated at the inaugural event of the exhibition dedicated to Leonardo Da Vinci entitled “Leonardo, il genio gentile” edited by the Ambassador of Italy to Sofia, S.E. Stefano Baldi. The event was held at the National Library of Sofia. An exhibition composed of illustrated panels on the life of Leonardo Da Vinci and all the main fields of science and art in which he has experimented. “Walking on sunshine” by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, reproposed for the summer edition of the National Palace of Culture (NDK), followed by “La vita facile” by Lucio Pellegrini, were the last two films to officially closed the 4th of the Italian Cinema Festival in Bulgaria.
Thanks to an online advertising campaign, the 4th Italian Film Festival in Bulgaria has gained wide visibility on all social media and on facebook page: just to give some numbers, 16.653 people who viewed the daily posts, a total of 1.548 minutes of views of the official promo trailer with a coverage of 5.254 people.
